I’m in Taiwan

15 07 2007

After about 24 hours of planes, airports and vans, I’m in Taiwan. It feels a little different here than it did when I spent time in mainland China before but a lot is the same as well. One of the things that I’ve been telling people that I’m really excited about for the next two years is the food. Not too long after settling down in the place I’m staying I sat down to a plate of dumplings 饺子 and a bowl of beef noodles 牛肉面. It was delicious, especially after the airplane meals! Also, Taiwan has some incredible fruit – I’ve already had a couple of mango slurpees at the local 7 Eleven.

I’ll be in Taiwan until the end of July and then will be I’m bound for the mainland to begin language school. While Taiwan is cool, I’m not sure I’ll be too sorry to go since it’s the opposite of cool from a weather standpoint. Hot and humid is the name of the game here and it’s kind of a shock for a South Dakota boy. Willis Haviland Carrier is one of my favorite people right now.
